1. Titled “Fantastic Beasts,” the first in the trilogy launches in 2016 with a new film every two years until 2020.
2. Don’t expect to see Harry Potter, Hermione or Ron in FANTASTIC BEASTS. FANTASTIC BEASTS won’t be a sequel or prequel to the Harry Potter movies. The standalone story is set 70 years before the Harry Potter story starts and centers on a main character named Newt Scamander. The trilogy is an extension, however, of the wizardry world, featuring magical creatures and characters inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook.
3. J.K. Rowlings will make her screenwriting debut adapting her 2001 book into a screenplay.
4. The filmmaking team behind the Harry Potter movies returns with David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movie, directing the three Harry Potter spin-off. Harry Potter producers Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram also return to produce along with J.K. Rowlings.
5. As far as the Harry Potter connection goes, the book is a required textbook for first-year Hogwarts students authored by Newt Scamander.
