THE BOOK OF LIFE arrives on Blu-ray and DVD January 27, but the animated film almost didn't get made when director Jorge Gutierrez went to Guillermo del Toro's home to pitch him the idea for the colorful movie inspired by the Day of the Dead holiday. CineMovie sat down with the Mexican-American director who describes the disastrous day when he met his idol and how a bottle of Tequila saved the day.
Guillermo del Toro than took Jorge Gutierrez under his wing, and pitched the idea to several studios. 20th Century Fox opened THE BOOK OF LIFE in movie theaters on October 17, 2014, and earned a worldwide take of $93 million.
