Ryan Gosling in a galaxy far, far away?
At Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, Lucasfilm dropped a surprise announcement that’s already shaking up the fandom: an all-new STAR WARS movie is coming to theaters on May 28, 2027, titled StAR WARS: STARFIGHTER, with none other than Ryan Gosling piloting the action.
Yes, Gosling—fresh off his Oscar-nominated turn in BARBIE and already a cinematic icon from La LA LAND and DRIVE—is set to lead the next era of Star Wars as a starfighter pilot in a completely original story. So the last part isn't exactly based on Thursday's announcement, but one can assume that in a movie, titled STARFIGHTER, Ryan Gosling would be behind the controls of the rebel spacecraft.
If you’ve ever wanted to see the cool guy energy of Gosling in a galaxy full of hyperspace, dogfights, and droids, this might just be the most perfect casting since Han Solo shot first.
Directed by Shawn Levy, known for DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE and Stranger Things, STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER is being billed as a standalone adventure set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, introducing all-new characters and exploring a never-before-seen time period in the Star WARS timeline. No Jedi, no Skywalkers—just fresh space drama with high stakes and Gosling-level charm.
Levy’s action-comedy chops combined with Gosling’s effortless charisma could mean we’re getting a Star Wars film with a slightly different flavor—more swagger, more fun,and possibly more heart. Think rogue pilot with a complicated past, a sleek ship, a questionable mission, and that classic Gosling smirk under a flight helmet.
Production begins this fall, so expect casting news, concept art, and story teases to drop in the coming months. Until then, just picture Ryan Gosling flipping switches in the cockpit of a starfighter, chasing TIEs through asteroid fields, and trading banter with a sarcastic droid.
Honestly? We’re already buckling in.
