'The Revenant's' Alejandro G. Iñarritu and Emmanuel Lubezki Make Oscar History

Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñarritu has a long history of nominations starting with his break out film, AMORES PERROS which earned a nomination for Best Foreign Language in 2001. in 2007, he received his first Best Director nomination for BABEL starring Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt. He didn't win, but he came back with a vengeance winning two back-to-back Oscars in 2015 and 2016.
Alejandro G. Iñarritu is the second director to win back-to-back. John Ford won his two Best Director statues at the Academy Awards for GRAPES OF WRATCH in 1940 and then in 1941 for HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY.
Iñarritu's "compadre," Emmanuel Lubezki, as they call each other, has been nominated 8 times as Best Cinematography. On Sunday, February 28th - the Mexican native became a three-time Oscar winner with a consecutive win for three years. He's the first director of photography to win it three times in a row.
