Christopher Nolan Reveals No 3-D For New Batman Movie

No need to disinfect those 3-D glasses for the next Batman movie.  Director Christopher Nolan has announced the next Batman movie will not be brought to you in stereoscopic projection.
Director Christopher Nolan told the LA Times Wednesday he is not interesting in joining the latest Hollywood 3-D craze and will shoot the new installment of the Batman franchise with IMAX and high-definition cameras as he did with The Dark Knight. “We want the look and feel of the film to be faithful to what has come before in the first two films,” Nolan told the LA Times. “There was a large canvas and operatic sweep to ‘The Dark Knight’ and we want to make a film that will carry on with that look and feel.”

In the past, the Memento director has expressed his dislike for 3-D and has chosen to continue the third film in the series in 2-D to keep a "consistency" between the film.  The British filmmaker also resisted the idea of converting Inception into 3-D.  It's hard to believe a Hollywood studio would not convert the film to 3-D but Warner Bros. decision to not convert Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to 3-D might indicate the studio is listening to filmmaker's wishes.

The Inception helmer also revealed a few more details about the caped crusador's next film set for release in 2012.  The film will be titled THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and will pick up where we last left the dark hero.  Christian Bale will reprise his role as the hero on the run from the law.

While on the run, the Bat-Man will still have to fight a new bad guy.  Nolan didn't provide much information about any new villains but he did say, “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones.”  After Heath Ledger's award-winning performance as the Joker, the pressure is on to find an equally fun and menacing Batman nemesis.  One classic Batman villain that will not be on the Batman's hit list, the Riddler.

While the Riddler has been axed as a new character, one other casting choice is imminent.  A new leading lady will have to be introduced since Bruce Wayne's true love Rachel (Maggie Gyllenhaal) was killed off in THE DARK KNIGHT.  Rumor has it they are currently casting for a female role. Could it be for a love interest or a female villain or both?  Catwoman comes to mind but it will be hard to top Michelle Pfeiffer's purr-fect vixen in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. But we are talking about Christopher Nolan, the cinematic genius that keeps surprising us with his perfect track record on celluloid.

Production for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is scheduled to begin in April 2011.

The Na'vi have laid claim to December 2014 as the release date for the 3-D film with a third sequel to follow twelve months later in December as well.  In a statement released by Twentieth Century Fox, James Cameron expressed his excitement over the announcement, “I’m looking forward to returning to Pandora, a world where our imaginations can run wild.”
