On Tuesday, February 9th, 2016, after receiving its World Premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival, American DREAMers receives it’s North American release online and on demand. The feature documentary, directed by Jenniffer Castillo and Saray Deiseil and executive produced by Jon Huertas ("Castle") and Nicholas Stich (With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story), follows the journey of a group of undocumented youth who publicly come out as undocumented and walk 3,000 miles across America's heartland — from San Francisco to Washington D.C. — to organize for immigrant rights. The filmmakers talked about their own journey in making the heart-felt documentary, and we hope many eyes will watch American DREAMers which puts a face to the immigration issue.
American DREAMers will be available on demand via Comcast, Time Warner Cable, AT&T U-Verse, and DirecTV. These platforms are the largest in North America and the four of them together represent over 50 million subscribers. Additionally, the film will be available on other major platforms, including Dish, Verizon FiOS, Charter, and Cox. Online, the film will be available via iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, and Microsoft Video Store.
The six young people featured in the documentary are part of a much larger undocumented youth movement. As a result of the movement’s collective efforts, approximately 1.7 million undocumented youth now benefit from Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which grants them legal presence in the U.S. and two-year work permits. President Obama announced the program after the subjects featured in American DREAMers staged a series of sit-ins and hunger-strikes in Obama for America campaign offices in cities across the nation. Castillo and Deiseil followed the subjects through their journey of over 3,000 miles to capture their courageous story.
