On July 3, the underwater 3-D adventure documentary, HUMPBACK WHALES 3-D opens at the California Science Centerin Los Angeles. CineMovie sat down with director Greg MacGillivray to talk about capturing the 55-foot, 50-ton aquatic mammals with 65mm IMAX cameras and the challenges of immersing the audience in the humpback’s epic migration underwater.
Narrated by actor Ewan McGregor (Star Wars Episode 1-3), and presented by Pacific Life, two-time Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Greg MacGillivray and his crew from MacGillivray Freeman Films followed the humpback from the tropical Kingdom of Tonga, to Alaska and Hawaii over a course of a year to capture the whales intriguing behaviors including their amazing songs and underwater acrobatics.
