Starz's new show Vida tackles many issues of gentrification, sexual identity and family drama set in East Los Angeles, and first time showrunner Tanya Saracho sits down with us to discuss why "brown gays' are finally getting their voices heard on her new series. Vida premieres Sunday, May 6 on Starz. Vida is a half–hour drama series focusing on two Mexican–American sisters from the Eastside of Los Angeles who couldn’t be more different or distanced from each other. Circumstances force them to return to their old neighborhood, where they are confronted by the past and surprising truth about their mother’s identity.
This illuminative series explores identity, culture, gender and sexuality through the lens of a Latinx family and their community. An Official Episodic Selection and Audience Award winner at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival, "Vida" is a half-hour series focusing on two Mexican-American sisters, Emma (Mishel Prada, "Fear the Walking Dead: Passage") and Lyn (Melissa Barrera, "Club de Cuervos"), from the Eastside of Los Angeles who couldn't be more different or distanced from each other. Circumstances force them to return to their old neighborhood, where they are confronted by the past and surprising truth about their mother's identity.
