Is it a coincidence that North Korea’s internet outage is related to the news that Sony has reversed it’s decision to release THE INTERVIEW on Christmas Day? We hope so but highly unlikely, but two people are most excited over the news are Seth Rogen and James Franco who took to Twitter to tweet out their joy about the news. Although the controversial film featuring an assassination plot against North Korea’s leader will only be playing in limited theaters across the United States, it’s the right message to send to the hackers. Don’t mess with America.
Sony Entertainment Chief Executive Michael Lynton announced THE INTERVIEW will screen in 200 theaters in mostly independent movie chains such as Alamo Drafthouse in Texas whose owner was very vocal about not giving into the threats. In addition to the limited theaters, the Sony press release also mentions alternative platforms with no specifics.
"We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we're excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment. "At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience."
Now the question remains if audiences will turn out for THE INTERVIEW. While public sentiment echo on the big screen. We hope audiences turn out in droves to send a loud and clear message.
THE INTERVIEW’s Seth Rogen and James Franco tweeted out their reaction to the news after remaining mum on the subject since the news broke that Sony was canceling the theatrical release.
The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! Sony didn't give up! The Interview will be shown at theaters willing to play it on Xmas day!
