Spanish filmmaker Rodrigo Cortés makes his English language feature film debut with BURIED starring Ryan Reynolds (The Green Lantern). The independent filmmaker sat down with CineMovie's Zay Zay to reveal how he landed a big Hollywood star for his low-budget thriller and why he felt the story needed to be told entirely in one location - confined to a box.
In 1998, Cortés directed the short YUL, which won over twenty awards and in 2001 he released 15 DAYS, a fake documentary in the form of a large short film that earned over 57 awards at festivals, becoming the most awarded Spanish short film of the time. In 2007 he directed THE CONTESTANT (Concursante), his first feature film that was released with critical applause and earned several awards, including the Critic’s Award at Malaga Film Festival.

Rpdrigo continued his lucky streak at festivals earlier this year with the 2010 Sundance Film Festival where BURIED was picked up for distribution by Lionsgate Films, and earned critical reviews for its clever use of one location for the entire film.
Rodrigo explains to Zay Zay what he wanted to achieve by keeping all the action in a coffin, with one actor playing out the drama-- only here on CineMovie TV. Watch the video above.
About BURIED:
Paul Conroy is not ready to die. But when he wakes up six feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time, fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only ninety minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.
